Capitol Air Sytems AuditingCompressed air is utilized in many commercial and industrial facilities for a variety of purposes and is often considered as a utility which is essential to production. All too frequently, however, little thought is given to the cost of compressed air and the potential for reducing these costs. In fact, compressed air is an expensive utility and users should make every possible effort to use this utility wisely and efficiently. This fact sheet (download PDF) is intended to give the user of compressed air some general ideas about improving the efficiency of a compressed air system. The user is encouraged to seek specific advise concerning the compressed air system in their facility.

Compressed air is delivered to the end by a system, consisting of a compressor, various types of conditioning equipment (such as filters, dryers, oil separators, pressure regulators, etc.), and a distribution system. Each of these components is unique to each system and each has an impact on the total cost of compressed air. Efficiency improvements should consider all these components.

Capitol Air Systems has built an alliance with ECOS Consulting, a successful third party administrator for PG&E’s compressed air efficiency program. The 2010 program consists of full auditing services supplied by PG&E to the end user with the ability to implement total system or partial system upgrades. These upgrades are eligible for incentives up to 50% of the installed project cost. With your electric utility company potentially picking up half of the final bill, this program is extremely popular and availability of auditing resources is limited.

Audits

Are you unsure about the source of pressure drops in your compressed air system? Would you like to eliminate the moisture in your compressed air system? Would you simply like an overview of the performance of your compressed air system? Interested in energy savings possibilities?

Capitol Air Auditing TeamCapitol Air Systems can help with our comprehensive air system audits. Why settle for an audit where a couple of pressure and amp readings are taken? Our Air Audit data collection devices monitor your system 24 hours a day, giving you valuable information not only about your system, but about fluctuations in your system. If you could determine that you were losing plant pressure every time that a given piece of equipment fired, what would that mean to your process?

If you found out that you could run on one less compressor during second and third shifts, how could those energy savings affect your budget? Wouldn't you like to know exactly how much air you needed before you spent a healthy chunk of change on new equipment? Would your company be interested in having your utility company assist you in paying for your new equipment?

AuditOur Air Auditing Analysis may be appropriate for you if you:

· Have outgrown your current compressor system and need to determine how to upgrade your equipment
· Have leakage, pressure drop, or moisture problems
· Have equipment which is not working as effectively as it should
· Are simply interested in evaluating your air system and seeing if you can increase your productivity or lower your costs

We can install the Air Audit data collecting equipment for any period of time up to six weeks. The data collector can be set up to measure such variables as input/output pressures from each compressor, True RMS kW measurements, CFM used at each equipment line, and dew point level at various points in your plant. Below is a summary of the specifications for the system:

At any one time, the data collecting equipment can measure:

· True RMS kW - the system can monitor electrical current on up to 16 air compressors or vacuum pumps, 0-800 hp range
· Pressures - the system is capable of tracking up to 24 pressures, 0-800 PSIG range
· Temperatures - the system can track up to 6 temperatures, -100 degrees F to 450 degrees F
· Flow rates - the system can process inputs from 6 flow meters
· Dew point - the system will accept 6 dew point inputs

AuditMultiple systems can be installed or systems moved to measure data at every point desired. Capitol Air Systems will provide training to your personnel at setup. Data collected will be analyzed by Capitol Air Systems' Department of Energy certified Airmaster+ Specialists, and a detailed report will be issued detailing our findings and making recommendations to correct any problems encountered. We are unrivaled in accuracy and speed in completing this process.
